Hairy Ball Theorem

And people say that maths is boring!

What other discipline could come up with something like Hairy ball theorem??

Its great because it sounds a bit risque, but is actually just a very abstract bit of algebraic topology. But what a great name for a band!

Hairy Ball Theorem would not be used as a real band name. This would be the fake name that a someone like Green Day, Iron Maiden or U2 use for a small scale secret club gig. (Like REM used to perform under the name Bingo Hand Job or Genesis used to use the name The Garden Wall and the Sex Pistols used SPOTS - for Sex Pistols On Tour Secretly)

PS. I think Genesis used to use that name. I might be wrong on that one.

PPS. I really wish I had turned "safe search" on before doing a Google Image Search for "Hairy Ball"

In the beginning there was "The Garden Wall" and "The Anon". They came together to form the band known as Genesis. Many years later, reports were about that the band was practicing for an upcoming tour under the name "The Garden Wall" yet again.

Love the blog, the title has been a life long phrase of my own also! I had always liked the Road signs in the US that say "Slow Children" on them...and then a Canadian band used it as a name....damn the early 80's!

I used to like the road signs saying "heavy plant crossing". I always imagined a pumped-up shrub running across the road...

I'm sure I remember Genesis playing as "The Garden Wall" in the late 70s. It was in the Melody Maker and they billed themselves like that so that only 'real' fans would realise who it was and buy tickets.
